November 10, 2011: World Class Competition On Tap for Quantum Key West 2012 — 25th Anniversary Event to Feature Top Talent and Design Debuts

Key West, Fla. — Grand Prix champions and racing enthusiasts are gearing up for Quantum Key West 2012. The twenty-fifth edition of Key West Race Week will feature strong international programs and top-tier competition.

A race week hallmark in years past has been new design debuts. The absence of new models in recent years appears to be over. New designs in 2012 include an R/P IRC 52, a J/V IRC 52, the Farr 400, a McConaghy 38 and a Carkeek HPR 40 (current scratch sheet).

Long time Key West players are coming back - with or without their own rides. Hap Fauth cherishes his annual visit to the southernmost point of the United States for an action-packed week of sailboat racing.

December 20, 2011: Quantum Key West 2012 to Deliver Top Tier Competition

Veteran Sailors Anticipate Great Racing and Key West Fun

Key West, Fla — Top-of-the-line IRC 52 racing is alive and well and headed for Quantum Key West 2012. A strong fleet of eight 52-footers will compete in the 25th anniversary edition of the renowned midwinter regatta held off the southernmost tip of the continental United States. Included in the class are brand new IRC 52 designs from Reichel-Pugh and Botin Partners.

January 11, 2012: Grand Prix Classes Ready to Roll at Quantum Key West 2012 — Five Days of Racing Begins Monday

High profile fleets, intense competition and superb sailing conditions have made Key West a showcase event for many one design classes. The popular Farr 40 class, which debuted in 1996, is certainly one of them. Jim Richardson recalls many fond memories and looks to next week for more.

“I absolutely love Key West. It is one of my all-time favorite regattas,” said Richardson, who bought the 12th Farr 40 ever built. “It’s an incredible venue and Premiere Racing always does a terrific job. I just think Key West is the Super Bowl of sailboat racing. It’s as close to an industry-wide convention as you will find.”

Richardson has skippered Barking Mad to three Farr 40 world championships, but his 2008 victory at Key West remains one of the highlights of his sailing career. Richardson had fallen short in 10 previous attempts to add that notch to his belt, finishing as runner-up on three occasions.

January 15, 2012: Race Ready at Quantum Key West 2012 — Big Breeze and Blue Skies for the 25th Anniversary

Key West, Fla — There’s been a flurry of activity at the various marinas around the Conch Republic as boats and crews prepare for Quantum Key West 2012.

Tourists disembarking from the cruise ships have been gawking at the high-tech big boats berthed at the docks in front of the Westin Hotel while crews tune rigs and load sails.

Vacationers renting jet skis in front of The Galleon have dodged the many Melges 32s heading out of Government Cut to go practice. Couples having lunch at the Half Shell Raw Bar have watched Farr 30 teams return to docks of Historic Seaport after a day on the water.
