Welcome to Final Friday!
We are winding up for the final day of Quantum Key West 2015. Yesterday’s conditions showed why racing in Key West is spectacular! The forecast for today shows stronger breeze for the morning with an estimate of 15-20 and trending lower as the afternoon progresses.
Division 2 warning is at 1030 – with the intent of sailing 3 races. Division 1 and 3 warning is at 1130 – with 2 races scheduled.
The Daily and Overall awards will be presented this evening @1845. In addition to the Daily and Overall awards, Midwinter Championship Trophies will be presented to the following classes:
- Melges 24
- Melges 32
- J/70 – The Marlow Trophy, and the Corinthian Trophy
CONGRATULATIONS to Bradley Faber and his team on the J/111 Utah who was presented with the Boat of the Day Award on Thursday.
There are some close classes going into the final race day. Slap on sunblock and hold on to your hats! Three of the four GC 32s are tied on points (16), the same situation is in the Maxi class with Bella Mente and Numbers tied on points (15). In the J/70 class, 3 points separate Calvi Network and Helly Hansen. In J/88, only 2 points sit between Deviation and Touch2Play . Wahoo!

Today’s weather looks to provide us with 2 good races, and steadily increasing breeze for a banner finish on Friday. Divisions 2 and 3 are starting 1 hour earlier with the warning scheduled for 1030.
The awards presentation and full results from Mount Gay Rum Day are posted on the Premiere Racing website. Distributors from across the U.S. were onboard, as well as guests from Marlow, the City of Key West, and Schooner Wharf.
Division 2 and 3 are starting earlier on Thursday. The daily weather briefing at the Quantum Sails tent with Ed Adams will be at 0800.

The Schooner America is hosting the guests of Mount Gay Rum. The wind conditions are looking optimistic and we hope they enjoy a great day on the water!
The Mount Gay Rum Lounge and Tasting is open tonight from 5-7:30 pm at the Event headquarters. The Mount Gay Rum team will be on hand to help guests explore the origins of Mount Gay Rum, what makes it special, and the importance of its connection with the sailing community.
Guests in the Lounge will have the opportunity to sample Mount Gay Eclipse and Black Barrel Rum Punches.
For Jimmy Buffett fans, you know the song, but if you need a refresher, then it is Volcano.

An added note for Jimmy Buffett fans – word on the street is JB may be in town laying down some tracks at the “shrimp boat.” One of our RC folks were in Schooner Wharf the other night, and he nearly fell off his bar stool when he looked across the bar and saw George Strait having a beverage and enjoying one of the best watering holes in town! Just saying’…

Kelly’s Caribbean was busy yesterday afternoon and evening with Quantum Coaching seminars, Sharon Green’s 30 Years of Ultimate Sailing, and the Daily Awards following Monday’s fabulous racing.
Congratulations to Bennett Greenwald, and the crew of the J/70 Perseverance winning the Boat of the Day, receiving a Chelsea Shipstrike Clock posting an 11, 1 in the largest and highly competitive J/70 class.

There may be a few clouds on the course, yet, we are confident in delivering good racing in today’s conditions.
J/70 Boat Speed – Tune & Trim to Win
Ed Baird is hosting an all-star panel of One Design champs to discuss tuning and trimming tips. If you are mid-fleet, and are looking for the “little details” to help you jump up in the standings, come by this afternoon from 5-6pm. A social including appetizers and beverages will follow!

Daily Weather Briefing
Every morning, Ed Adams will conduct a daily weather briefing at 08:30 at the Quantum tent at the shoreside venue (next to Kelly’s Caribbean).
From 5-7pm at the Gallery on Greene, 606 Greene Street; hosted by Quantum Sails. Bring a guest and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
Daily Debriefs will feature the J/111 and J/88 classes today @ the Quantum Tent .

For a visual feast, stop by for a multi-media presentation that brings to life the excitement and evolution of yacht racing over the past three decades, as seen through the eyes of world-famous photographer Sharon Green.
Final note: We kindly ask that all boats with podium finishes today, please send a representative to receive your daily trophy on stage. The awards ceremony is scheduled to start no later than 1845.
